ROOT CANAL TREATMENT IN BROMLEY

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontics, is a way of treating infection in the pulp (blood or nerve supply) of the tooth. This can happen through decay or injury, and if left untreated the infection can spread through the root canal system of the tooth, eventually leading to a painful dental abscess and in some cases tooth loss.

The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure, so in most cases you will need at least two visits to the practice. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and should feel no different to having a filling.

Root Canal Therapy
At the first appointment, the infected pulp is removed and if any abscess is present it will be drained. The root canal is thoroughly cleaned and shaped ready for a filling. A temporary filling will be put in place to allow the tooth time to settle and to make sure all infection has cleared.

Your second appointment will enable your dentist to check that the infection has fully healed before the tooth is permanently filled.

EXTRACTIONS AND ORAL SURGERY

In some cases a tooth may be so badly decayed or damaged that it needs to be removed. Extractions can usually be carried out under local anaesthetic, although we also offer extractions under sedation for patients who are very nervous.

We will provide you with full aftercare advice if you need an extraction, and will also discuss replacement options for your tooth, including dental implants and bridges.
