IV Sedation / Nervous Patients
The most common reason for putting off visiting the dentist is fear. Often, patients put up with unnecessary pain and discomfort for months until it becomes unbearable because they are afraid of visiting the dentist. An easily-remedied dental problem then becomes more difficult, more invasive and more costly to treat.
There are many reasons for this fear: a bad past experience, difficulty in getting numb with local anaesthetic, a phobia of the smells or sounds of the dental surgery, sensitive teeth. . . Sometimes, there’s no logical explanation for the fear, but whatever the cause, sedation can make a big difference. Using IV sedation, you will be fully relaxed for the duration of your treatment, experiencing no pain and remembering little of the treatment afterwards. You will also be monitored continuously to ensure you are medically well.
At All Smiles we have an in-house anaesthetist, Dr Mohan who will will sedate patients within safe guidelines, and the practice also has full resuscitation facilities in the unlikely event of an emergency.

I honestly can’t recommend All Smiles enough. I had the pleasure of being seen by Dr Carolina and Zaneta today for an emergency appointment. They’re so friendly and non-judgemental, and are very clear and honest about their recommendations. I felt really looked after and listened to!As a nervous patient I think it’s really, really important to gel well with your dentists. I’m so grateful to have found All Smiles as they are by far the best and most comfortable practise I’ve visited (and believe me, I’ve visited a few!) Expert care, great hospitality and a super friendly team. All Smiles was there for me when I experienced an infected tooth which led to a swollen cheek. Dr Ash & Aziz took excellent care of me from the emergency, diagnosis and treatments. They calmed me and I felt no pain when I was injected. This is the best dental practice I have been to. Fabiani and Samatha were warm, highly-professional and effective. They addressed any concerns I had and clearly explained the treatment process. I can say I'm a happy customer, I been for the first time and I can say I'm extremely happy with the service, I'm not a bug fan of the dentist but in this place everybody treated me nice. I have been a satisfied customer of All Smiles Dental Implant Centre for several years, having had 2 separate implants and a replacement crown fitted. Dr Ash makes the whole process easy from start to finish, ably supported by his excellent team. Everything is explained in as much detail as required and visits are always pleasant and friendly. I have had many tooth extractions over the years and can safely say that the 2 performed by Dr Ash prior to fitting the implants were the most gentle and painless I have ever experienced! My experience with all smiles has been exceptional since I started my dental treatment with them in May 2021. My last visit was to have my gum extraction stitches removed. My experience was superb, I was treated with tender loving care, I did not feel any pain, they kept checking on me during the process, all the staffs customers service was fabulous and exceptional. I have always had issues with overcrowding since I was a teen and recently it got worse. I developed severe gum disease as well substantial mobility in my front teeth. Dr Ash had a very challenging task ahead of him to partially retain some of my own teeth and place implants for my front upper and lower jaws. Dr Ash and his fabulous team has given me a new lease of life and given me the confidence to smile again. Superb dentist in a nice easy to find location on the high street. Had to have a molar removed. Was put at my ease. Offered a coffee. Didn't feel judged when I asked for sugar! Was given a pioneering treatment where they separate a sample of your blood in a centrifuge and then use the plasma as a healing balm on the gum. My gum healed with no pain or complications. I am so grateful to Dr Ash and his fine team.
After months of seeing myself on Zoom and being dissatisfied with the amount of wrinkles and rather haggard look I decided to something about it and have Botox and filler treatment. I had a very traumatic incident where I lost my upper left central tooth and the staff were really calm, friendly and professional from the minute I arrived to the clinic. Lovely staff and Dr. Ash is a perfectionist. Very pleased with my two front teeth implants to replace the two I managed to knock out last May. I now have the temporary crowns fitted which will be replaced with the permanents in a few months, which I am told will be even better! To be honest the temporary's are great already.

HOW DOES SEDATION WORK?
If you opt for sedation, you will be given intravenous sedative drugs using safe and proven techniques. Our anaesthetist will administer an IV to enable medications for relaxation to enter your body. These drugs will quickly put you in a relaxed stated that is maintained and monitored for the duration of your treatment. This is not a ‘general anaesthetic’ like those administered in hospitals, as you will breathe on your own, but you won’t be aware of or remember any dental procedures or even getting numb. After the procedure is finished you’ll be brought round, and should have a friend or family member to take you home as you won’t be able to drive. The effects of IV sedation can last for five to six hours.
As well as helping nervous patients to relax, the use of IV sedation enables us to complete multiple procedures in one appointment, which otherwise may be too tiring or uncomfortable. It’s also very helpful for patients with a strong gag reflex that can otherwise make treatment difficult. There are many other reasons patients opt for sedation:
