All Smiles Invests in New Technology
“Dentists are no longer just ‘drill-and-fill’ surgeons!”
So says local cosmetic dental surgeon, Dr Ashish Deved of All Smiles Private Dental Practice in Bromley, Kent.
He adds: “Dentistry has changed a lot in recent years. Our role has been expanded, the technology is a lot better, and we can now do much more for patients than we could in the past.”
People are now more aware of what can be achieved, due to the current trend in ‘extreme’ makeover shows on TV where patients undergo cosmetic dentistry and other surgery to achieve a dramatic new look.
“I’ve known patients to get good jobs or change their whole lifestyle, just because they have a better smile,” Dr Deved says. “Improving dental appearance is known to increase self-confidence and personal esteem, but it takes time. These shows give a false impression as they make it seem as though results can be achieved within a couple of days. But it can take a month or more to see what a new smile will be like. There is no quick fix.”
Dr Deved has seen “amazing” changes in dentistry over recent years. He explains: “The materials I use now are more versatile than ever before. Patients have a choice between silver or white fillings. Porcelains and ceramics are very lifelike and can achieve a wonderful match to natural teeth. Cements have evolved that have a stronger bond so they last longer when placing veneers and crowns. And crowns look natural with no grey metal base that shows when you smile. It’s a wonderful illusion.”
